So.  Many.  Chocobos.  And all shiny.

Francisco

Francisco

It's Francisco, the giant rainbow chocobo! He's a bit of a show-off, I must say--but he's a sweetheart and would take any poor chick under his wing if they ever needed his help. He's extra soft and an astounding 14 inches to the top of his crest. Crocheted, like the others--with larger plush yarn and a lot more stuffing. I'm currently of the belief that there is a conspiracy theory centered around why his left side refuses to photograph at all well, but I'm sure his fabulousness comes through regardless.

I will not go into the complications I ran into while trying to make a giant crocheted chocobo, but I will say that it's been a learning experience. And very worthwhile.

Francine

Francine

This is Francine. Her friends call her Franz. No, I'm not sure why, but I assume there must be an explanation. She likes tea and crumpets, and yet lacks the thumbs with which to make them. Good thing her handler shares.

Eyuss

Eyuss

29 November 2011

The name's Eyuss. His handler calls him Yussie. The locals call him... a lot of things I can't repeat here. It's not that he's mean, and he's certainly not one to nip at fingers, but he is a bit... er... flashy. A lot flashy. Yussie is a serious show-off. So of course he's perfect in his profession as a parade bird. Chest puffed up, feathers out, crest up and decked out in his parade gear, Eyuss knows how to work it. And will show you. At. Every. Opportunity. But not so deep down, he is a sweetheart and fiercely loyal.

So this would be a rather wild attempt at another style of crocheted chocobo. I don't necessarily have plans to make a line of these in particular, preferring to wander back to Onyx's style... but I wouldn't refuse someone who wanted me to make more. After all, this guy turned out wonderfully. Body composed of yarn and polyfill, feet are wire base wrapped with yarn so he is a bit poseable if care is taken. The bottom of his feet are coated in a thin layer of hot glue which acts as a no-skid surface so he actually, you know, remains standing.

Essie and Barnabee

Essie and Barnabee

29 November 2011

Essie (left) has been known to be a bit of a handful. She's maybe a little over-eager, entirely too willing to try anything and everything new by just rushing in, and she doesn't often take the time to worry about consequences. Of course, I would also call these things her best features.

Barnabee (right) is extremely easy-going and all around easy to get along with. He likes to fish. And lay in the sun. Any other hobbies just don't seem to be worth his effort.

Eldora

Eldora

29 November 2011

Likes: pickles, light breezes, summer rain

Dislikes: mud, people who call her "Dora"

I'd been wanting to do something with these lovely partially fiber optic beads for quite a while. So... chocobo eyes!

Egmont

Egmont

Likes: chivalry, cats (don't ask me), butterscotch candies

Dislikes: people making fun of his name, board games

His eyes are really more of a blue-green, but the camera disagrees.

Dakarai

Dakarai

29 November 2011

Dakarai is more humble than he seems... usually. Well, he's proud of his achievements, namely leaping his pen fence in a single bound. Granted this took the ingenuity of a well-places springboard--now where that came from is anyone's guess.

He's 7.75 inches tall (counting the peak of his crest), and a real sweetie. He's not made of the same kind of super-soft and smooth yarn that my chocobos are usually made out of, but... look, RAINBOW CHOCOBO!

Corbin and Carden

Corbin and Carden

29 November 2011

Corbin's the younger, and definitely the quiet, reserved type. He's thoughtful and friendly, he just prefers to listen and observe. Any shyness that other perceive is completely thrown out the window when he's asked to complete a task. A little strutting never hurt anyone.

Carden is, simply, silly. He's definitely a prankster, using his mock-innocence to misdirect so that he can hide and move things. Unbeknownst to his handler, there's a small collection of "lost keys" buried by the barn...

First off, what you have to know about these two is that their eyes are a little different. Corbin had real tiger's eye beads, and Carden has real jade. So I felt the need to treat my little black chocobos, what can I say. The camera does not properly pick up the tiger's eye, but it's got gorgeous bands of gold and dark honey.
