Needle Felted Tachikoma

Needle Felted Tachikoma

Needle Felted Tachikoma. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. …Revealing the exact why is just a further measure of my insanity.

It took a lot longer than I’d anticipated, but it wasn’t nearly as difficult. I think that means I win, right? I’d considered making the, er, rear bigger, but then I kind of liked how it looked when I was at this stage and left it there. They’re allowed to be individuals now, you know.

Sahale

Sahale

What hatched from that strange gold-flecked egg was not quite a bird, not quite a dragon... well, no one's quite sure what it is, but it's been named Sahale, strongly rumored to be a Phoenix. Certainly Sahale's story is only beginning...

This is the joy of having an enormous amount of "stuff" lying around, just waiting to be used. This little critter started out as, "Hm, I really should make use of this wool... and these eyes..." I hoard because eventually cool stuff will happen, see? The wool is exquisitely soft merino wool from Flights of Whimzy, and the eyes are lovely, sparkly, alive things from Dreaming Tree Studio. As will happen from time to time, I will glance at a pile of things, take an armful, and see what happens.

Needle Felted Charms

Needle Felted Charms

A little gift for my "heterosexual life partner", it seems. Heh. It took soooo much more time to do these than I think it should have. But I love the results, so. High-quality merino wool, beads, wire. Awesome. (And yes, Tiger's eyes are really tiger's eye.)

Little Tiger and Bunny Dolls

Little Tiger and Bunny Dolls

Sometimes it is desperately nice to have a whole project last only half a day. I managed to needle felt these guys without bleeding once. Weird! Amazing! It will never happen again! Make out of uber-bright, uber-soft merino wool.

I'm keeping them, they are mine, CLAIM. But I may try a few more in the future with some adjustments.

Lil' Kodama

Lil' Kodama

I saw Princess Mononoke on a Netflix DVD some time ago. I sat through the whole thing, mesmerized. When the credits rolled, I got up, stretched a little, got some food--and started it over again. Of course the absolutely creepy-adorable Kodamas stuck in my mind.

...This one looks horrified. And it amuses me incredibly. He's also supposed to be hugging his knees, which doesn't really come through well in the pictures. Argh. Anyway, he's 3.75 inches of needle felted goodness. I kind of wanted to make him intentionally rough to look like someone had built him in tribute or something... which is probably why he looks so disturbed.

Lil' Bunkie

Lil' Bunkie

So I've been picking at needle felting for a while. This is my first finished 3-D critter, and of course it had to be a geeky Carbuncle of Final Fantasy fame. Sure I lost count of how many times I may or may not have stabbed myself with said needle, but the important thing is that I never bled on the figure! ...And also if I ever wind up with diabetes, I'll know what to expect.

Anyway. Lil' Bunkie here is 4.5 inches tall with a single siam Swarovski crystal in his forehead and two little blue beads for eyes. He's comprised completely and totally of wool roving, so he's soft and fuzzy and... well, he needs a trim. But I'll get to that.

Felted Plush Carbuncle

Felted Plush Carbuncle

Another experiment with the same-ish Carbuncle pattern that I've been playing with--only this one has some needle felted details! Exciting, I know. I wanted him to have a "fuzzy" look, and so... I have succeeded. But not before breaking two felting needles. It's my own damn fault for felting directly to fleece, but... geez. You wouldn't think this sweet little guy would be capable of snapping metal, but he is. "Strong enough to BREAK METAL, yet gentle enough not to crush my hand."

Of course, the jewel in his forehead is a large gorgeous Swarovski crystal, and the eyes and lovely little glass beads. Those fuzzy accents are hand-dyed Merino wool from Flights of Whimzy, and it's soooo soooooft.
