Phoenix Tail

Phoenix Tail

Sort of on a whim, go figure. I'd been planning to come up with something simple from an assortment of Swarovski crystals that happened to be on sale... but nothing can ever be simple. Luckily the result seems rather worth the effort.

I Want to Strangle the Stars for All They Promised Me

I Want to Strangle the Stars for All They Promised Me

A promise is a promise, even if it's from a force rather than a person. I will not rest until the sky falls down around me...

Do enlarge this. The sheer amount of color is incredibly worthwhile. No, really. I have no idea why this came to be, exactly. Too many chocobos, not enough cutting myself with wire? Anyway, it just kind of happened. All wire is sterling silver. That gorgeous bottom bead is blue tiger's eye/hawk's eye, the top bead is dichroic glass, and the middle bead off to the left there is liquid crystal. Color-changing. Otherwise known as a "mood bead"; it changes color with temperature. Because my body temperature is lower than most people and clearly I must be a lizard, it's pretty much always blue when I touch it. It shifts into greens, purples, and even sunset golds and rusts. That little "flare" below it is a starburst of Swarovski crystals, but of course. All of the other beads are glass.

As for the title, it's a lyric from "Want" by Recoil. A very... personal song, you could say.

A Kiss for Luck

A Kiss for Luck

It's said that Lady Luck is remarkably fickle. One moment she's smiling at you with her hand resting on your shoulder, and the next she's pushing you away in disgust. It's not known exactly how one goes about getting Lady Luck to look one's way, but maybe something devastatingly sparkly is the way to her fickle heart.

The color combination of red, black and copper was suggested to me recently, and while I can't blame the suggester, I hope he won't mind me thanking him a little bit. *grin* I'd actually set out to make a simple necklace. Again. I failed so hard at that. 51 Swarovski crystals, a few seed beads, and the typically insane urge to make little tiny links out of thin copper wire. Yeah, that's all me. All mine. I'm going to take a couple of days off now, thank you.

Atlantis' Treasure

Atlantis' Treasure

I can't explain it, really. I've had the blue-green beads for a very long time. Then happened to come across the exact same bead in straight blue and straight green a few months back. And, for no explainable reason... this happened.

I rather like the way it moves. I was considering joining all of the strings with chain, but I just don't think it would look as nice while worn.

Submerging

Submerging

Merfolk think human stories about mermaids wanting to live above the sea are silly. Clearly humans would prefer to live below, and not the other way around. The artwork of the merfolk is interwoven with their mythology; this one tells the tale of a young woman who caught a glimpse of a merman and fell deeply in love with him. For years she tried, sometimes with great hope and sometimes with great desperation, to hold her breath longer and longer, getting closer and closer to him until one day, finally, she swam deep enough to see him and reach for his hand. Scholars would have you believe that she merely drowned herself and her dying illusion was that of the merman's hand reaching back, but any artisan will tell you that the story ends in the strength of the heart, and the magic of true love.

I had wondered some time ago if I would ever rival Atlantis' Treasure. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference. 131 (that is, ladies and gentlemen, one hundred and thirty-one) Swarovski crystals combined with a number of glass beads that I refuse to count make this massively sparkly. So of course it barely shows in pictures. ARGH. I've been trying to get video of it. Failures, thus far--but I'll keep trying.

Midnight Serpent

Midnight Serpent

There's an old tale passed down by the Serpent Clan that parents tell their children, of a little lost girl in the woods. She was alone and frightened and came upon a clearing that she didn't recognize--but she could see the stars above. "Midnight Serpent, Midnight Serpent, wrap the night around me and keep me safe until I get home." She said, over and over as she walked until she was too exhausted to go on. She woke up the next morning to find herself just outside of her village, a small diamond mark on her neck... maybe from the Midnight Serpent.

Of course Charlie here (of unidentified gender... don't ask) isn't quite as serious as all that. He's a sweet and friendly, fun-loving midnight serpent with a penchant for sparkling and the night life.

Charlie is a maaaaajor accomplishment for me. The serpent is enormous in terms of my dragon bracelets, and took some days. How many days? I don't want to know. I really don't even come close to wanting to estimate. Many. Lots and lots and lots of time and beads, with a Swarovski crystal tongue and eyes. And some tail accents. Of course my camera and I fought over trying to get the incredible colors right... and this is pretty close. There's nothing like seeing it in person, though.

Dangly Tachikoma Necklace

Dangly Tachikoma Necklace

Who wouldn't love a tiny little Tachikoma looking out for them? I did not plan this. I know I say that a lot, but I mean it every time. I just saw the back bead, which happened to be next to the round bead, and... yeah. I refuse to try and explain how much of a pain it was to get the wire to work exactly like I wanted it to, but I succeeded and it's over now and that seems really important. And, well, Tachikoma!

So I had the little Tachikoma, right? Surely that was over and i could get back to other things. ...And then somehow the idea of making a whole necklace for it happened, and... I don't know. I went through my beads, and there was this utterly gorgeous blue agate that worked perfectly. So. Yes. That's several more hours of my life, putting that thing together. I do hope it's worthy of the Major herself.

(Ghost in the Shell and Tachikomas belong to Masamune Shirow, Production I.G, and probably a lot more people and companies that I fail to realize. Some day I will have a Motoko action figure. Some day.)
